What to send us for a hydraulic cylinder quote
A few photos and four measurements get you a real answer a lot faster than describing it over the phone. This is the list we ask for.
Nobody can give you an exact price on a cylinder they haven't opened. What we can do, from photos and a few numbers, is tell you whether it looks like a reseal or a rebuild, whether it's a job we take on, and roughly what to expect before you haul it anywhere. You can send all of this by WhatsApp or text, in English or Spanish.
The photos
- The whole cylinder, end to end, so we can see the type and the mounts.
- The rod up close, in good light. If there's pitting, rust or a scratch, get that spot in focus.
- Where it's leaking, if it's leaking.
- Any tag, plate or stamped number on the barrel. A part number saves a lot of guessing.
- The machine it came off, and its data plate if you can get to it.
The measurements
A tape measure is fine for most of this. Measure with the cylinder fully retracted.
- Retracted length, from the center of one pin hole to the center of the other.
- Stroke: how far the rod travels from all the way in to all the way out. If you can't extend it, tell us and we'll work it out.
- Rod diameter.
- Outside diameter of the barrel. The bore gets measured exactly once it's apart.
Tell us what it's doing
A sentence or two is enough. Is it leaking outside, drifting under load, moving jerky, or did something bend? When did it start, and does it happen with every load or only the heavy ones? On a forklift or a dump truck, say which cylinder it is: lift, tilt, steering, or the hoist under the bed.
What happens next
We reply with what we think is going on and what the next step is: a diagnostic on-site, or bringing the cylinder to the shop. Nothing gets taken apart for a repair until you've seen the written estimate and approved it. After that you get a tracking link, so you can see where the job is without having to call.
